(3CT) 3 Counties Transport - Disability Page

3CT (or 3 Counties Transport) offers transport to those who have difficulty accessing transport in Haverhill and the surrounding area in West Suffolk, North-West Essex and South-East Cambridgeshire. This has been made possible through a unique brokerage partnership between existing Community Transport schemes.

• 4 day a week 'door-to-door' Dial-a-Ride into Haverhill for Haverhill residents and those in the surrounding area in Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire
• Group Hire for community groups and clubs - 12 and 16 seat minibuses available
• Community car scheme run by volunteer drivers using their own vehicles
• Wheelchair accessible car for individual transport requests ("Wheels Within Wheels" vehicle - can carry up to 5 passengers, or 3 passengers plus a wheelchair)
• Minibus driver assessments (to national MiDAS certificate standards)

3CT dial-a-ride services into Haverhill can be used for shopping, getting to the doctors, chiropodists, opticians or other health facilities, and for social purposes.

The Community Car Scheme or the "Wheels Within Wheels" vehicle can be used for shopping, hospital visiting, visiting relatives, medical and health related appointments, including hospital or clinic outpatients appointments where NHS transport is not available, and to link with public transport (such as coach and bus services).

Community groups and clubs can hire 12 or 16 seat minibuses on an occasional and / or regular basis for use in transporting members of their group or club, for example excursions.

3CT, as a scheme serving Haverhill and its surrounding area, has been made possible by partnership-working, on a vehicle brokerage system, between the following members:

This partnership is unique in that existing schemes from three counties have formed a partnership to work together. As a result of the partners making their vehicles available when not in use, greater access and availability has been created to those wishing to use 3CT facilities potentially at any time.

Community groups and clubs wishing to hire a vehicle

Individuals who experience:

• a lack of access to public transport and their own means of transport
• difficulties using conventional means of transport, i.e. buses

Here are some examples of how individuals might meet these criteria:

• You may not have access to your own means of transport because your car is being used by another, i.e. your partner or a member of your family
• You may have difficulties accessing transport because the nearest bus stop is too far to walk to, or because buses services are infrequent, or you cannot get to your destination by public transport
• You may experience difficulties accessing public transport through mobility difficulties, such as getting onto a bus, because of high steps or not being wheelchair accessible.

Community groups and clubs from the surrounding area (i.e. not listed above) are welcome to hire a minibus from 3CT.For information on how to become a member or request further information, and how much it costs, click here.

If you are an individual or couple wishing to use the dial-a-ride service, or you represent a group wishing to hire a minibus, you will need to become a member of 3CT first. This organisation offers free advice with travel plans for short and long distance journeys to those with specific needs. Such information includes; help from home to vehicle, getting on and off, what happens at the other end, wheelchair or scooter hire or repair, hand controls, insurance, and accessible toilets.
